Pay special attention to your hair and nails. You’ll probably use your headshot for at least a year or two. We want you to love your photos! Neatly done hair is a must! Wild or untamed hair can ruin your whole session! Please consult with a stylist before your session to ensure the best results. It’s best not to try a new style before your session. We advise sticking with a familiar hairstyle. A style that you’ve worn before and know you’ll look good in. You want to be as confident as possible! Hands are just as important as your hair. Please be aware that your hands and feet may also be in your portrait. You may consider doing your own nails or going for a manicure/ pedicure. If you have open-toe shoes on, make sure your toes and feet look good too. Show them a little love. It’s possible we’ll get some full-body photos and want you to look good from head to toe.
It’s a great idea to have your makeup professionally done. Often times lighting will intensify the shine on your face. Having professional makeup applied will reduce the shine making for a flattering photo. If you are doing your own makeup we suggest wearing foundation and powder. Stick to something simple. It’s suggested to go with a nice natural look. Please let us know if you need a makeup artist. We’ll be more than happy to suggest someone.
*Quick Tip
*Glasses tend to leave red marks on your nose when taken off. If you decide not to wear them in your photo take them off 15 minutes before the session.
Let’s be honest. Selecting what to wear for your photo session can be a daunting task (only if you let it). It’s very important to be mindful of what you wear. We want you to like your photos. So we suggest choosing something that’s flattering on your body type and embodies your personality. Busy patterns like stripes, checks and horizontal lines can be unflattering. When shopping or pulling from your closet reach for solid colors. You’ll thank us later. Solids are easy to pair, flattering, and keeps the focus on you (the subject). You can go with bright bold colors, earth tones, or even darker colors that give an instant slimming effect. Styles and trends are constantly changing. By wearing solids this allows you to achieve a classic look. This is great because you’ll be able to use your photo longer. But if you must wear a pattern consider blocking. Solid on the top, pattern on the bottom (or vice versa). As styles and trends change you’ll have.
Go straight to Pinterest to get some great outfit ideas. Pinterest is a wonderful way to find inspiration. The most important wardrobe tip we have to offer is to wear something that you like. Something that makes you feel good. The confidence that comes from knowing that you look good along with a warm smile will result in an image that you love and will help you achieve your marketing goals. Headshots are supposed to convey that you are a confident and polished professional so take the time to choose clothes that convey that message.
2. Wearing jewelry that is distracting from your face
3. Overdressing. This includes wearing “big” jewelry, scarves, and big hair
4. Wearing loud/distracting patterns.
5. Wearing a Turtleneck (unless it looks good on you). In general, a v-neck style will be more attractive.
6. Be mindful of ill-fitting clothing. Before your session be sure to try on clothing to make sure it fits properly.
7. Don’t overdo your makeup. And we don’t mean the “style” of your makeup, we mean in the thickness and amount of application on your skin.
8. Don’t be afraid to ASK US anything BEFORE your scheduled appointment.
